I guess that's because none of the original acer software is present. Everything works fine with the new clean install except the dedicated keys on the keyboard do not work (example: Fn - F3 that allows WiFi). Finally, my only recourse was to buy an OEM version of windows 7 Home premium, to remove the old drive of garbage and install a new samsung 256Go SSB 840Pro. I couldn't recover using the recovery discs because they could not access the hard disk. The hard drive on my 5742z have completely failed.
